My great grandparents Orrin and Deane Hess built a cabin on the shore of the Salmon River 100 years ago. It is nestled between two long rows of towering cedar trees. It holds a special place in my family – where we re-connect, float the river, explore the forest, and tell long stories by the firepit.

 

When his health began to decline, Great Gran'pa Orrin released the deed for the cabin to Deane his wife. He signed the legal document in a flourish, and added: “To Deane, with love and affection.” His sweet gesture inspired this collection.
